April 26,2000 <br /> The regular meeting of the Everett City Council was called to order at 8:30 <br /> a.m.,April 26,2000,in the City Courcil Chambers of the Everett City Hall, <br /> President Campbell presiding.Upon roll call it was found that Couneilmembers <br /> Anderson,Simpson.Gipson,Campbell,Pope and Overstreet were prevem. <br /> Mayor Hansen and Councilmember Warnock were excused. <br /> Coumilmember Simpson led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> The minutes of the April 19,2000 City Council meeting were approved as <br /> printed. <br /> COUNCIL <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> Cauocilmember Anderson explained that the National League of Cities has <br /> made it a priority m oppose any Congressional action that would preempt sate <br /> and local sovereignty and oppose any Congressional efforts to expo.the <br /> ¢and kcal sales and use taxes. He <br /> umvduced moratorium <br /> f the Council's consideration. <br /> Moved by Conndlmember Anderson,seconded by Caurcllmember Gipson <br /> to adopt Resolution No.4892 opposing any anpmdonal action that would <br /> preempt Acte and Incl sovereignty end oppose eny Cengrnetoeal efforts to <br /> expand the current moratorium on certain slate and local sales and use <br /> taxes as follows: <br /> WHEREAS,the use of new communications technologies,including the <br /> Internet,as it way to conduct sales of goods and services is accelerating,and <br /> WHEREAS,outof-eros vendors who conduct sales via the hnxtrx,mail order, <br /> and phone,under many circumstances,are not required by low to collect <br /> existing sales and use taxes imposed by state and local governments in which <br /> the purchaser resides:and <br /> 159 <br />
