April 06,2000 <br /> RESOLUTION-POLICE RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM <br /> Moved by Councilmember Anderson,seconded by Councilmember Pope to <br /> adopt Resolution No.dSSS supporting the Everett Polite Department's <br /> continued involvement and emphasis in the Everett School District <br /> Elementary Schools as follows: <br /> WHEREAS,for a number of years the City's Police Deparunent hes had a <br /> partnership w0h the Everett School District through the DARE Program which <br /> has provided the police officers an oppomsNty to have a positive effect o0 <br /> Everett's students while providing an oppomudty for a school based policing <br /> Manors and <br /> WHEREAS,the DARE Program provided certain limitations ut the school <br /> banal policing program by limiting the scope of the officers'ability to interface <br /> with the students as well as the scope of the program haelf;and <br /> WHEREAS,the Everett School District is implementing a new health and <br /> fitness program curriculum that will be covering marry of the same points <br /> covered by the DARE Program;and <br /> WHEREAS,the Elementary School Police OR Program will provide for the <br /> presence of three commissioned police officers to serve the district's elementary <br /> schools.Further,to provide the officers with the opportunity to act as teachers, <br /> mentors,and counselors;and <br /> WHEREAS,this program provides the flexibility to beau partner with the <br /> Everett School District in addressing the needs of the elementary schools and <br /> provides a better and broader foundation f r an effective school based policing <br /> program front the Police Depalnem's perspective:are <br /> WHEREAS,the City Council finds that a police officer's presence in Everett's <br /> schools is important and the Elementary School Resource Officer Program will <br /> provide for an expanded role for its officers in the schools; <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF EVERETT that: <br /> 164 <br />
