April 06,2000 RESOLUTION-POLICE RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM Moved by Councilmember Anderson,seconded by Councilmember Pope to adopt Resolution No.dSSS supporting the Everett Polite Department's continued involvement and emphasis in the Everett School District Elementary Schools as follows: WHEREAS,for a number of years the City's Police Deparunent hes had a partnership w0h the Everett School District through the DARE Program which has provided the police officers an oppomsNty to have a positive effect o0 Everett's students while providing an oppomudty for a school based policing Manors and WHEREAS,the DARE Program provided certain limitations ut the school banal policing program by limiting the scope of the officers'ability to interface with the students as well as the scope of the program haelf;and WHEREAS,the Everett School District is implementing a new health and fitness program curriculum that will be covering marry of the same points covered by the DARE Program;and WHEREAS,the Elementary School Police OR Program will provide for the presence of three commissioned police officers to serve the district's elementary schools.Further,to provide the officers with the opportunity to act as teachers, mentors,and counselors;and WHEREAS,this program provides the flexibility to beau partner with the Everett School District in addressing the needs of the elementary schools and provides a better and broader foundation f r an effective school based policing program front the Police Depalnem's perspective:are WHEREAS,the City Council finds that a police officer's presence in Everett's schools is important and the Elementary School Resource Officer Program will provide for an expanded role for its officers in the schools; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVERETT that: 164
