February 21,2001 <br /> Prim to the Planning Commission review,the Mayor and City Council appointed <br /> a Shoreline Advisory Committee.The committee met over the past two years to <br /> formulate and approve the draft Slmreline Master Plan considered by the Planning <br /> Commission.The Shoreline Committee also gave a brief presentation to the City <br /> Council earlier this year. <br /> President Simpson remarked that the City Council has been provided with all <br /> documents and correspondeue and has taken recent tours of lc City's shoreline <br /> in preparation for their decision an the update of the Master Plan. <br /> The Everett City Council requested tonight's public heeriag to give citizens an <br /> opportunity to come and speak on the Shoreline Master Plan Update before the <br /> Council makes its final decision on March 7,2001. <br /> President Simpson invited public comment. <br /> had Roberts,Planning discussed the reasons for updating the Shoreline Master <br /> Plan and gave a history,of the development of the plan and its substance.He <br /> stated Met the thanes that are central to this plan are improved public access, <br /> improved environmental protection,compliance with the new State rales,the <br /> rules which were adopted by the Department of Ecology last year and the <br /> Endangered Species Act.He marked that the Snohomish Estuary Wetlands <br /> Integration Plan work is incorporated into this update. It meets the City's <br /> response for the inventories which are required under the new shoreline ales <br /> adopted by the Department of Ecology and the requiremems for best available <br /> science.Issues of concern that remain are the designations for the East Everett <br /> area,the Simpson site and the Mata aby Mud Flats area. <br /> Michele Hoverter,5502 S.Y,gave a slide presenmtien regarding the City's <br /> shorelines and their recreational use.She showed videos of the 1990 and 1995 <br /> floods in thermal Everett area. <br /> Bud Bmmmel,3521-1509 Phare NE,Marysville,who works as a residatial <br /> lender in the City of Everett stated that he supports the updated plan. <br /> Mae Robison,1631 Cedar,remarked that the Snohomish River Delta is a <br /> treasure end should be left alone. <br />
