August 15,2001 WHEREAS,many of Everett's Meets have become extremely congested as a result of the SR 529 construction closure:and WHEREAS,the City of Everett has the largest employment base in Snohomish County;and WHEREAS,Evers.is concerned about the adverse impact this road project has on Everett's citizens and visitors;and OWv thErebiussicnoencssaed sod embpobuyodthy w heerCty io ofot erethis R;mad and projechas • WHEREAS,the Mayor has directed the Everett Police Department to assist in providing increased patrol and personnel to deal with the congestion;ad WHEREAS,in response to this situation,Everett Transit has already redeployed some of its routes,has commenced shuttle service in NE Everett,has added additional bus.and hm been placing drivers and supervisors o0 overdo.and WHEREAS,Everett Transit has the capability of quickly responding to transit needs within Bre City afE000.and for its customers;and WHEREAS,the City of Everett recognizes that waiving the existing vansit foe on Everett Transit buses for this interim period of time may encourage residents and visitors to use the bus for theirdaily commute in order to reduce the number • ofvehiclea on the roadway.and WHEREAS,the City Comcil has jurisdiction over vaysitEve policy, NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE • CITY OF EVERETT to declare a temporary waiver of Everett Transit fares for the duration of the transportation crisis as determined by the Mayor. Roll was called with all councilmembels voting yes except Councihnmber Anderson who was excused. Motion carried.
