August 15,2001 <br /> WHEREAS,many of Everett's Meets have become extremely congested as a <br /> result of the SR 529 construction closure:and <br /> WHEREAS,the City of Everett has the largest employment base in Snohomish <br /> County;and <br /> WHEREAS,Evers.is concerned about the adverse impact this road project has <br /> on Everett's citizens and visitors;and <br /> OWv thErebiussicnoencssaed <br /> sod embpobuyodthy w heerCty io ofot erethis R;mad <br /> and projechas <br /> • <br /> WHEREAS,the Mayor has directed the Everett Police Department to assist in <br /> providing increased patrol and personnel to deal with the congestion;ad <br /> WHEREAS,in response to this situation,Everett Transit has already redeployed <br /> some of its routes,has commenced shuttle service in NE Everett,has added <br /> additional bus.and hm been placing drivers and supervisors o0 overdo.and <br /> WHEREAS,Everett Transit has the capability of quickly responding to transit <br /> needs within Bre City afE000.and for its customers;and <br /> WHEREAS,the City of Everett recognizes that waiving the existing vansit foe <br /> on Everett Transit buses for this interim period of time may encourage residents <br /> and visitors to use the bus for theirdaily commute in order to reduce the number <br /> • ofvehiclea on the roadway.and <br /> WHEREAS,the City Comcil has jurisdiction over vaysitEve <br /> policy, <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> • CITY OF EVERETT to declare a temporary waiver of Everett Transit fares for the <br /> duration of the transportation crisis as determined by the Mayor. <br /> Roll was called with all councilmembels voting yes except Councihnmber <br /> Anderson who was excused. <br /> Motion carried. <br />
