November 2,2005 <br /> domestic violence and their families,and we have made a provision In this <br /> budget to fully fund this program. <br /> ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br /> This proposed 2006 budget provides the resources we need to improve <br /> and broaden the local economy.The City's key ea'tomin development <br /> strategy is to retain and recruit businesses and revitalize business <br /> districts. <br /> I am happy to report these efforts continue to be successful.Snohomish <br /> County was recently Identified as having the highest job growth in the <br /> state. <br /> In the past year,we have: <br /> •Seen growth in aerospace and bio-medical research jobs; <br /> •Secured the future of Naval Station Everett;and <br /> •Supported the expansion of Snohomish County's government <br /> campus,Providence Everett Medical Center.Evere6 Man and <br /> Everett Community College. <br /> These s represent anin family-wage jobs and <br /> contribute to the viability of small business throughout our community. <br /> Several new businesses have chosen to locate here,including StockPot <br /> Soups,Old Navy.Best Buy,Bed Bath 8 Beyond,PetSmart,and Jorders <br /> Books—all of which are either under construction or slated to break <br /> ground in the near future. We are encouraged to see Everett being <br /> recognized by manufacturers and major retailers as a profitaole place to <br /> do business. <br /> We are working with the public to develop a plan for downtown Everett. <br /> The downtown plan will provide direction fora vadely of community <br /> development issues,such as zoning,parking.building and streetscape <br /> design, property maintenance. parks and open spaces, end <br /> transportation. <br /> CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS <br /> Our City perks contribute greatly to the quality of life in Everett,and we <br /> are working hard to ensure they are well maintained and designed to <br /> 360 <br />
