October 31,"007 <br /> Public Safety <br /> •Additional resources ror the Police Department to expedite the <br /> hiring process to maintain continuity in services and Increase <br /> the existing force to keep pace with our growing population. <br /> •funding to purchase land for the replacement of Fire Station 3. <br /> Parks Recreation.and Culture <br /> •Park renovation and construction projects are in progress or <br /> planned at Silver Lake,the Everett Performing Arts Plaza,Lion's <br /> Park,Wlggum's Hollow Skate Park and Grand Avenue Park. <br /> These projects,together with recently completed projects at <br /> Rotary Centennial Water Playground,Klwanls Park,Garfield <br /> Park,Langus Park and Northwest Park,will enrich our <br /> community's recreational opportunities for years to come.And, <br /> our work continues to realize the recommendations made in <br /> our parks Strategic Pian. <br /> •Expanded ferry service to Jetty Island from floe to six days per <br /> week,adding a total of nine days to the season. <br /> Transportation Improvements <br /> We have traditionally taken a proactive approach to maintain and improve <br /> our transportation system.In 2007,we have projected to spend about <br /> $26 million on local roads and transit projects.We will continue this trend <br /> in 2008 and coped to complete the following: <br /> •Street Improvements to the intersection of Broadway and Beverly <br /> Boulevard,the intersection at Casino Road and 50 Avenue W.,the <br /> continuation of our street overlay program,and signal <br /> Improvements along Merrill Creek Parkway,Broadway and Everett <br /> Avenue. <br /> •Pedestrian and bike lane improvements to Holly Drive,7"Avenue <br /> SE,Corbin Drive and W.Marine View Ddve. <br /> •EverettTransit's College Station. <br /> We will also purchase three hybrid buses and implement Everett Transit <br /> route enhancements—all of which will help people move about the city <br /> more efficiently and with less impact on our environment.Other projects <br /> • <br /> 358 <br />
