January 23,2008 <br /> The regular meeting of the Everett City Council was called to order at 8:30 <br /> a.m.,January 23,2008 in the City Council Chambers of the Everett City <br /> Half President Nielsen presiding.Upon roll call it was found that Mayor <br /> Stephenson;Council Members Olson,Hatioe,Nielsen,Stonecipher,and <br /> Affholter were present Council Members Roberts and Gipson were <br /> excused. <br /> Council Member Olson led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> The minutes of the January 16,2008 Everett City Council meeting were <br /> approved as printed. <br /> COUNCIL <br /> REPORT—GREEN HOUSE GAS EMMISSIONS <br /> Pet McClain,Govemmental Affairs,stated that last year an inventory of <br /> city programs that addressed climate protection was presented to the city <br /> council.At that time the city council requested a carbon footprint analysis <br /> be done.He introduced Suzy Oversvee to make that presentation. <br /> Suzy Oversvee explained that when she talks about a carbon footprint <br /> she means an inventory of green house gas emissions primarily from <br /> energy consumption,fuel consumption and landfill wastes. Her report <br /> focused on the emissions from govemment operations.She stated that a <br /> community wide analysis Is nearly completed. She inventoried <br /> emissnvaSon measureswhich converted to limiting green house gas <br /> ions by 807 tons ata savings of$227,785 per year for the city.Her <br /> recomrnendations include setting a reduction target and developing an <br /> action plan. <br /> Council Member Olson questioned if there is a point at which carbon <br /> output is deemed to be safe. <br /> 21 <br />
