June 10,2009 <br /> He pointed out that this administration and council have consistently <br /> supported the arts and culture in our community.He listed three reasons <br /> why he does not support the execution of the lease.He urged the council <br /> to vote no and to explore other options. <br /> Moved by Council Member Olson,s ended by Council Member <br /> Nielsen to authorize the Mayor to execute a lease with the Village <br /> Theatre for the former Key Bank Building. <br /> Council President Hallen stated that anumber of letters have been <br /> received regarding this Issue end that they will be entered into the public <br /> record. They include three in support from Linda Beaumont,Desmond <br /> Skubl,and Victor Harris and one in opposition from Linda Johannes. <br /> Brace Jones,Legal,remarked that the proposed lease is a more detailed <br /> version of thememorandum of understanding which was approved in <br /> 2007. He discussed the conditions of the lease. He stated that the <br /> Village Theatre has secured commitments of$900,000.00 for tenant <br /> improvements. <br /> Bab Overstreet,Everett Myma Overstreet,Everett;and Peter Newland, <br /> Everett;spoke in supped of the proposed lease and Kidstage. <br /> Linda Johannes, Granite Falls, and Louise Stanton-Masten, <br /> President/CEO,Everett Chamber of Commerce,expressed concem <br /> regarding the timing of the proposed lease and encouraged the council to <br /> postpone their decision. <br /> Council Member Olson gave a brief history regarding the purchase and <br /> development of the Key Bank property and discussed the consequences <br /> of reneging on the memorandum of understanding.He urged the council <br /> to move forward and approve the lease as presented. <br /> Council Member Roberta stated that this action is about economic <br /> development and is censistent with a long history of plans that the council <br /> has adopted in the past. <br /> Council Member Nielsen remarked that the Everett Performing Ads <br /> Center was promised an entrance to their building which included a plaza. <br /> 156 <br />
