October 14,2009 <br /> The regular meeting of the Everett City Council was called to order at e:30 <br /> p.m.,October 14,2009 in the City Council Chambers of the Everett City <br /> Hall,President Hatloe presiding.Upon roll call it was found that Mayor <br /> Stephenson;Council Members Roberts,Olson,Hadoe,Gipson,Nielsen, <br /> Stonecipher end Affholter were present. <br /> Council Member Nielsen led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> The minutes of the October 7.2009 City Council meeting were approved <br /> as printed.CounGl Member Gipson abstained from the vote. <br /> MAYOR <br /> Mayor Stephenson stated that the City of Everett has been awarded three • <br /> grants this week from the Recovery Act;a$2.17 million Community <br /> Energy Efficiency Pilot Program grant, a 91,045,400 Energy and <br /> Efficiency Conservation Block grant,and a$1.2 million grant for Strategic <br /> Fiber Optic and Library Public Access assistance. <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> Mayor Stephenson proclaimed the month of October,2009 as"Domestic <br /> Violence Awareness Month in Everett" <br /> He presented the proclamation to Peace Chief Scharf who accepted It on <br /> behalf of Toni Hecht and Teresa Cox,Prosecutor's office,and Detective <br /> Gill,Police Department. <br />• DOMESTIC VIO1 FNCE PROGRAM UPDATE <br /> Chief Scharf stated that the Police Department handles approximately <br />• <br /> 850 cases of domestic violence a year. Canted from year to year that <br /> accumulates to about 1000 to 1200 cases that Teresa Cox handles <br /> through the Prosecutor's office. He remarked that there has been a 13 <br /> percent increase in conviction rates this year and en 11 percent increase <br /> in plea agreements as a result. <br /> 294 <br />
