Adopting this plan will not impact the budget further.
Project summary statement:
in 2018, Everett voters approved Proposition 1 to fundamentally change how city
councilmembers will be elected and establish districts throughout the city. Also, via
Proposition 2, the voters decided that of the seven city council seats, two will be at -large
(meaning they can live anywhere within the city) and five must live in the district they
want to represent. Within this ballot measure, it was determined that the City would
need to establish a districting commission, composed of Everett residents and appointed
by the current city council and the mayor. In May 2019, the Everett City Council
appointed eight commissioners, keeping in mind geographic diversity. During the
commission's first meeting in August 2019, the commission appointed the ninth
commissioner. Members: Simone Tarver (Chair0), Chris Geray (Vice -Chair), Mary Fosse,
James Langus, Ethel McNeal, John Monroe, Kari Quaas, Benjamin Young, and Julius
Wilson. These members have been working for over a year analyzing data, considering
public comment and using their collective knowledge of their community to create a
map that is in the best interest of the entire city. On October 19th, 2020 the commission
Nwebber@Everettwa.gov
FDiaz@Everettwa.gov
Initialed by:
C7
Department head
Administrati
i
Council Pr's!dent
't._:
approved Map A=9 (majority vote) to be -brought forward to council for final acceptance.
Once Accepted, this plan and materials will be provided to the Snohomish County
Auditor for implementation.
Recommendation (exact action requested of council):
Adopt a Resolution, pursuant to Section 2.1 (c) of the city charter, to adopt the
Districting Plan known as Everett Districting Map A-9, approved on October 19, 2020
by the Districting Commission.
