EVERETT <br /> WASHINGTON <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 7575 <br /> A RESOLUTION of the City of Everett to Adopt a Resolution, pursuant to Section 2.1(c)of the City <br /> Charter,to adopt the Districting Plan known as A-9 approved on October 19,2020 by the Districting <br /> Commission. <br /> WHEREAS, <br /> 1. In 2018, Everett voters approved Proposition 1 to fundamentally change how city council <br /> members are elected and established voting districts for The City of Everett; <br /> 2. Also,via Proposition 2,the voters decided that a 5:2 configuration would best serve the <br /> community. Of the seven city council seats,two will be at-large (meaning they can live <br /> anywhere within the city)and five must live in the individual Everett District they want to <br /> represent; <br /> 3. And, it was determined that the City would need to establish a 9-member districting <br /> commission, composed of Everett residents appointed by the current city council and the mayor <br /> keeping in mind geographic diversity,And; <br /> 4. These members have been working for over a year analyzing data, considering public comment <br /> and using their collective knowledge of their community to create a districting plan that is in the <br /> best interest of the entire city, And; <br /> 5. On October 19, 2020 the commission adopted a Districting Plan known as Map A-9 (majority <br /> vote)to be brought forward to council for final approval on October 28, 2020; <br /> 6. During the 2021 election cycle,the community will vote for Council Members that reside in their <br /> district for the first time in Everett history; <br /> NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND EVERETT CITY COUNCIL THAT: <br /> The City Adopt a Resolution, pursuant to Section 2.1 (c) of the city charter, to adopt the Districting <br /> Plan approved on October 19, 2020 by the Districting Commission. <br />
