On long or wide slopes, or slopes subject to wind, all seams should be taped
e. Place plastic into a small(12-inch wide by 6-inch deep)slot trench at the top of the slope
• and backfill with soil to keep water from flowing underneath
£ Place sand filled burlap or geotextile bags every 3 to 6 feet along seams and pound a
wooden stake through each to hold them in place
• g. Inspect plastic for rips, tears, and open seams regularly and repair immediately. This
• prevents high velocity runoff from contacting bare soil which causes extreme erosion
h. Sandbags may be lowered into place tied to ropes. However, all sandbags must be
• staked in place.
• Maintenance Standards
• 1. Torn sheets must be replaced and open seams repaired
• 2. If the plastic begins to deteriorate due to ultraviolet radiation, it must be completely removed and
• replaced
AD3. When the plastic is no longer needed,it shall be completely removed.
• 3.2.11 BMP C124: Sodding
• Purpose
• The purpose of sodding is to establish permanent turf for immediate erosion protection and to stabilize
• drainage ways where concentrated overland flow will occur.
Conditions of Use
• Sodding may be used in the following areas:
• • Disturbed areas that require short-term or long-term cover
• • Disturbed areas that require immediate vegetative cover
ID
• All waterways that require vegetative lining. Waterways may also be seeded rather than sodded,
1111 and protected with a net or blanket.
Design and Installation Specifications
• Sod shall be free of weeds,of uniform thickness (approximately 1-inch thick), and shall have a dense root
mat for mechanical strength.
• The following steps are recommended for sod installation:
• 1. Shape and smooth the surface to final grade in accordance with the approved grading plan. The
• swale needs to be over-excavated 4 to 6 inches below design elevation to allow room for placing
• soil amendment and sod.
• 2. Amend 4 inches (minimum)of compost into the top 8 inches of the soil if the organic content of
the soil is less than 10 percent or the permeability is less than 0.6 inches per hour. Compost used
• should meet Ecology publication 94-038 specifications for Grade A quality compost.
• 3. Fertilize according to the supplier's recommendations.
• 4. Work lime and fertilizer Ito 2 inches into the soil, and smooth the surface.
•
•
• Volume tl—Construction Stormwater Pollution Prevention
3-19
•
•'
