1601 Fifth Avenue,Suite 1300,Seattle,WA 98101 1206-382-0600 I kpff.com
April 17, 2019
Mr. Drew Martin
Associate Engineer
dmartin@everettwa.gov
Mr. Martin,
Per your request in your 04/10/19 email, below are responses for each comment provided for the permit
submittal of Kasch Park Roofing Repairs dated 03/06/19.This roofing repair project for Community Transit
includes five(5) buildings: Building A(Permit No. B1903-012), Bus Wash Building(Permit No. B1903-010),
Building C Canopy(Permit No. B1903-011), Fuel Island Canopy(Permit No. B1903-013),and the Vault Canopy
(Permit No. B1903-014).
Building A Permit No.: B1903-012
1. City of Everett Comment:
Sheet S1.0 is included with the set. Detail 5 appears to show some sort of new structural
member. However, the details on this sheet appear to reference R-series drawings not included with this
building submittal. Verify if Sheet S1.0 required in this set.
Response:
KPFF Comments: No,S1.0 is not needed for the Building A set; please remove the sheet entirely for this set.
Bus Wash Building Permit No.: B1903-010
2. No comments from City of Everett.
Building C Canopy. Permit No.: B1903-011
3. City of Everett Comment:
The report states that the maximum additional load on the structural cannot exceed 1.3 psf without
exceeding the weight threshold requiring structural evaluation. The report and Detail A/R3 indicate the
additional weight consists of a coverboard, insulation, and single-ply roofing. See the link below for a
representative product.
https://www.jm.com/content/dam/im/global/en/commercial-
roofing/Data%20sheets/Cover%20Boards/RS-5594%20DensDeck.pdf
The coverboard alone will weigh approximately 1.3 lbs or more depending on the thickness; note that the
required thickness is not specified in the drawings. The roll roofing is anticipated to weigh at least another 1
lb. The insulation material is unknown; a nominal weight is expected. It appears that the additional weight
potentially exceeds the threshold and may require structural analysis. Please note the following two
additional observations:
a. City of Everett Comment:The report states that the roof construction, including connections to
the existing building(vertical and lateral?), is structurally deficient as-is. The additional weight
will increase this deficiency.
<i
