Wetland Delineation Report June, 2015
South Everett Forest Preserve ©2015 Perteet Inc.
4.2.4. Soils
Two soil pits (SP-I and SP-2) were examined in the wetland on the South Everett Forest Preserve
property (see Table I). Soil pit SP-I is located along the western bank of Silver Lake Creek, while soil pit
SP-2 is located on an upland bench above the stream.
• The soils in SP-I consist of a dark brown (I OYR 3/2) silty sand that meet the hydric soil criteria
for sandy mucky mineral.
• Soil pit SP-2 is located on higher ground and there were no signs of hydrology. The soil layer
consisted of yellowish brown (I OYR 3/6) silty sand that did not meet the hydric soil criteria
because there was a bright chroma.
Table I —Wetland Test Pit Soil Data
Soil Pit SP-I (Wetland)
Depth (in. below surface) Munsell Color Texture Hydric
Indicator(s)
0- 6 7.5YR 2.5/I Mucky sand Sandy mucky
6-15+ I OYR 3/2 Silty sandy mineral
Soil Pit SP-2 (Upland)
Depth (in. below surface) Munsell Color Texture Hydric
Indicator(s)
0-6 I0YR 2/2 Silty sand NA
6-18 I OYR 3/6 Silty sand
4.3 Silver Lake Creek
Silver Lake Creek originates offsite to the north of the South Everett Forest Preserve and flows through
the wetland from north to south. The on-site portion of Silver Lake Creek averages 25 feet wide and I'
deep of slowly flowing water. There is abundant large woody debris and vegetation within the stream
channel so it meanders slowly through the wetland. At the southern end of the South Everett Forest
Preserve, the stream enters two 18" culverts underneath the access road to the electrical substation.
Further downstream of the South Everett Forest Preserve, the stream crosses under the Interurban
Trail and 1-5 and eventually flows into Silver Lake. Silver Lake Creek is classified as a Type NS water
according to the City of Everett critical areas
4.4 Wetland Ratings and Buffers
According to the USFWS classification system (Cowardin et al. 1979), the wetland is a mixture of
palustrine forested (PFO) and palustrine scrub/shrub (PSS) classes that is seasonally flooded.
Based on the hydrogeomorphic classification system (Brinson, 1993), the wetland is a riverine system.
According to the Wetland Rating System for Western Washington (H ruby 2008), the wetland received
a Category II rating. The wetland had an overall score of 58. The wetland received a score of 24 for
water quality functions, 18 for hydrologic functions, and 16 for habitat functions. The categories of
aquatic resources are summarized in Table 2.
Page 10
