•
•
nKLEY
NFELDERR
• People.
•
• 4 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
•
•
• 4.1 GENERAL
•
•
• The following opinions, conclusions, and recommendations are based on the properties of the
• materials encountered in the borings, laboratory results, and engineering analysis. The
• geotechnical recommendations to follow are contingent on earthwork performed in accordance
• with the earthwork guidelines in Section 4.5.
• 4.2 FOUNDATIONS
•
•• 4.2.1 General
•
• Based on our understanding of the project, significant structural improvements of the existing
• warehouse building are not currently planned. However, lightly loaded structures such as new
• building openings and exterior canopies may be constructed. We assume that any potential
• structural improvements will incur a maximum ultimate load case of 10 kips per foundation. Due
• to the presence of fill soils at the site, heavier foundation loads may induce excessive settlement
• and should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Kleinfelder should be provided final loading
• and layout information for review when available.
•
• Recommendations for spread footing and short drilled pile foundations to support the design of
• building improvements are presented below.
•
• 4.2.2 Spread Footing Foundations for Building Improvements
•
• Allowable Bearing Pressure
• Spread footings constructed on existing fill subgrade soils is not recommended due to the
• potential for deleterious or otherwise unsuitable material being present in the existing fill. If
• spread footing foundations are desired, we recommend that all existing fill be removed from
• within the footprint of the foundation and that the footing is constructed either directly on the
• native till soils or on compacted structural fill or lean-mix concrete extending from the base of
• the footing to undisturbed native subgrade as illustrated below.
•
•
• 20203884.001A/SEA20R110164 Page 11 of 28 June 1, 2020
•
©2020 Kleinfelder
•
