Subsurface Exploration, Geologic Hazard, and
Snohomish County YMCA Geotechnical Engineering Report
Everett, Washington Project and Site Conditions
I. PROJECT AND SITE CONDITIONS
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of our subsurface exploration, geologic hazard, and
geotechnical engineering study for the construction of the new Snohomish County YMCA. The
site location is shown on the "Vicinity Map," Figure 1, and approximate locations of the
explorations completed by Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. (AESI) are shown on the "Site and
Exploration Plan," Figure 2. We are familiar with the site through the completion of our
Hydrogeology Report titled, "Stormwater Infiltration Assessment-YMCA of Snohomish
County," dated January 17, 2018. For preparation of this report, we were provided with a 100%
Design Development Plan Set, prepared by BCRA and dated January 25, 2018, and with a 100%
Design Development Set Outline Specification - Everett YMCA, prepared by BCRA and dated
January 25, 2018, which includes a previously completed geotechnical engineering study,
prepared by Liu &Associates, Inc. and dated October 25, 2015.
1.1 Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this study was to provide subsurface data to be utilized in the design and
development of the referenced project. Our study included reviewing available geologic
literature, reviewing previously completed explorations by AESI, reviewing explorations
completed by others, and performing geologic studies to assess the type, thickness,
distribution, and physical properties of the subsurface sediments and groundwater.
Geotechnical engineering studies were completed to formulate recommendations for site
preparation, grading, types of suitable foundations and floors, allowable foundation
soil-bearing pressure, anticipated foundation and floor settlement, drainage considerations,
and infiltration feasibility. This report summarizes our fieldwork and offers recommendations
based on our present understanding of the project.
1.2 Authorization
Our study was accomplished in general accordance with our scope of work and cost proposal,
dated February 8, 2018. This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of YMCA of
Snohomish County and their agents, for specific application to this project. Within the
limitations of scope, schedule, and budget, our services have been performed in accordance
with generally accepted geotechnical engineering and engineering geology practices in effect in
this area at the time our report was prepared. No other warranty, express or implied, is made.
February 26,2018 ASSOCIATED EARTH SCIENCES,INC.
AWR/ms-170671E001-2-Projects120170671 lKElWP Page 1
