Geotechnical Engineering Report- Revised lierracon
Proposed CFT Retail Everett,Washington
February 1, 2018 Terracon Project No. 81185002
Construction site safety is the sole responsibility of the contractor who controls the means,
methods and sequencing of construction operations. Under no circumstances shall the
information provided herein be interpreted to mean that Terracon is assuming any responsibility
for construction site safety or the contractor's activities;such responsibility shall neither be implied
nor inferred.
4.3 Foundations
Our explorations encountered up to about 7 feet of previously placed, undocumented fill across
the site. Due to the unpredictability of the existing fill, we recommend complete removal of existing
fill below the proposed CFT Retail building and replacement with structural fill. If loose, materials
are encountered at or below proposed footing depths during construction, those materials should
also be removed and replaced with structural fill. The lateral extent of existing fill to be removed
and replaced for the building pad should be at least two-thirds of the depth of excavation beyond
the building pad footprint at the perimeter footing location.
All overexcavated areas and excavations resulting from removal of the existing structures and fill
should be backfilled with structural fill in accordance with the Earthwork section of this report. In
our opinion, after these overexcavations are completed, the proposed buildings can be supported
by a shallow, spread footing foundation system bearing on compacted structural fill extending to
at least medium dense native soils. Design recommendations for shallow foundations for the
proposed structures are presented in the following paragraphs.
4.3.1 Design Recommendations
DESCRIPTION Column Wall
Net allowable bearing pressure 2,500 psf 2,500 psf
Minimum dimensions 24 inches 18 inches
Minimum embedment below finished exterior 24 inches 18 inches
grade for perimeter footings 2
Minimum embedment below finished floor 12 inches 12 inches
grade for interior footings
Approximate total settlement 3 <1 inch <1 inch
<1/2 inch between
Estimated differential settlement 3 </2 inch over 40 feet
columns
Ultimate coefficient of sliding friction 0.40
Responsive Resourceful Reliable 9
