Soil s:ir:ples from the
exp'rations were visually classified in che field and then tal:en to our
laboratory where the classifications were verified in a relatively
controlled laboratory environment Field and laboratory ubservations
include density/consistency, moisiure condition, and, grain size and
plasticity estimates.
The classifications of selected samples were checked by laboratory.tesu
such as Atterb:rg limiu determinations and grain size analyses. ,
C7assincadons were made in general accordance with the UniSed Srn7
Classification (USC System, ASTM D 2457, as presented on Figure
B-1.
1'ater Contenl Determinations
As soon as possible following their arriwal in our ]aboratory, water
contents were determined for most samples recovered ln the
explorations in general accordance with AST111 D 2216. Water contents
were not determined for very small samples r,or samp]es where large
gravel contents would result in values considered unrepresentaWe. The
results of these tesu aze plotted at the resper.tive sample depth on the
crploration log. In addition, water contents are routinely determined
for samples subjected to other testing. These are also presented on the
exploration logs.
fltterberg Limits (AL)
We d:termined Atterberg limiu for selected fine-graine,l sol samgles.
The Lquid 1 .ut and plastic limit were determined in general accordance
with AS"T'D4 D 4313-3d. The restlts of the Atterberg limits analyses and
Page B-1
