1111111111111111 MN
awn MINI
■1■i■111 11111111
3. On Detail 11/S3.1,a steel elevation is shown. It is unclear in the drawings how these members
are to be connected (i.e. welds or bolts). Please provide additional details addressing these
connections,as well as details of the steel frame sitting within the wall cavity.IBC 107.2.1
DCI Response: Additional detailing has been added to the drawings for the framing
at the steel frame. See sheet S2.1 and detail 11/S3.1.
4. From Sheet S2.1,there is a callout that additional grout is to be added per 12/S3.1 on the east
side of the structure, please verify with calculations if additional reinforcement of the diagram
and connections are required as a result of the increase in weight in these areas. IBC 1604.
DCI Response: The approach to add grout to the existing CMU walls has been
abandoned. The new approach is to add strong backs for the out of plane resistance and
wood studs with plywood shear walls for the in-plane loading. The existing CMU walls
are now treated more like a veneer with the exception that the CMU will resist self-
weight seismic forces.
5. Please provide drift and deflection checks for the structure per ASCE 7-10 Sec 12.12 as these
appear to be missing in the permit calculations.
DCI Response: Drift and deflection check have been performed. See supplementary
calculations.
Sincerely,
DCI Engineers
(A/ii
raig A. Stainer,P.E.,S.E.
Associate
