IBC 1604. <br /> DCI Response: The approach to add grout to the existing CMU walls has been <br /> abandoned.The new approach is to add strong backs for the out of plane resistance and <br /> wood studs with plywood shear walls for the in-plane loading.The existing CMU walls <br /> are now treated more like a veneer with the exception that the CMU will resist self- <br /> weight seismic forces. <br /> 5.
