I am writing you today to share my deep concern regarding the profoundly harmful and disturbing proposed "no -sit" zone ordinance around the Everett Gospel Mission. Establishing a "no -sit" zone where a person cannot sit, lie down, or use a blanket is a grossly misguided action that essentially criminalizes homelessness. This ordinance does nothing to improve our community or its members. It does not include a solution for the real problem of lack of housing & shelter; instead, it only punishes our community's most vulnerable members for merely existing. I urge you not to pass this ordinance — to acknowledge these people for who they are, fellow members of our community who need our help! We should be working towards providing the basic essentials that you yourselves enjoy, not proposing cruel punishments to those who are already struggling to find a place to BE.
