There is no cost share, the award funds 100% of the equipment and
training required for Everett Fire to own and operate two drones.
There will be a recurring annual cost for program management software (DroneSense)
and equipment maintenance. All three
were awarded in April 2021 and this action will allow acceptance of the grant. Everett
Fire, with cooperation from the two partner agencies, and Everett Police and Everett
Public Works, will host a FAA approved training program and plans to deploy drones for
public safety use in the Fall of 2021 after program and pilot certifications.
Typical fire department uses of drones include search and rescue over land and water,
to include Jetty Island and Port Gardner Bay, thermal imaging reconnaissance for major
fire events, and capture of imagery for investigations and training purposes.
Recommendation (exact action requested of Council):
Authorize the Mayor to accept the grant from Tulalip Tribes Charitable Contributions Fund.
