Kirk Brooks
From: Charles Johnstone
Sent: Thursday, November 09, 2017 3:37 PM
To: Kirk Brooks
Cc: Jeff Kerwin
Subject: New Burger King at 8525 Evergreen Way
Got a few sheets in mail today, one of which is the Grading and Drainage plan showing the proposed GI. Looks like
they're spec'ing the same GI installed at the Marriot,a 1500 gal steel unit made by Rockford. The first of these I've seen,
the issue I noticed with its design is that with only two access points the part of first chamber not under the opening at
inlet end is difficult to inspect or service. I like that it's not in drive thru lane but it seems odd that they plan to locate it
50-60 ft west of building out near the sidewalk. Not sure why out there but I also can't think of reason(s)why we might
require it be sited closer to the building. UPC(Sec. 1014.3.4.1)only says GIs shall be placed as close as practical to the
fixtures served. Fine if their plan lives up to that less than specific guidance in your view. In any case, they should include
cleanouts at appropriate spots if they stick with that long pipe run from kitchen to the tank.Another question might be
how do they provide venting with it so far from the building.Venting it right there next to the sidewalk might not be too
pleasant.
No kitchen layout in the eight sheets I have. But per IPT code plans should include both a kitchen fixture layout and a
drainage waste plan noting FOG producing fixtures, and distinguishing grease waste piping and connections.
Plans should also have a detail for the proposed GI,to include a detail/calculation of sizing for the GI based on Drainage
Fixture Units served in the kitchen. Calculation to confirm total DFUs served (must be<172 DFUs for 1500 gal GGI). If
kitchen equipment includes a grinder/disposal unit, a dedicated solids separator will also be required on the drain line
between the grinder and GI.
Lastly, if there is a drain in the trash enclosure it should go to sewer via the kitchen grease waste line and GI.
Thanks and we're here if someone has questions or concerns.
Charles
X8224
From: Charles Johnstone
Sent:Thursday, November 9, 2017 8:42 AM
To: Kirk Brooks<KBrooks@everettwa.gov>
Subject: RE: SS17-004(5 lot short plat at 1601 Florida Dr
Okay thanks. Is that the demo and rebuild at 8525 Evergreen Way(old Village Inn Site)?
We had a meeting about that one in April 2015 so I wondered when that might come up again. We conveyed
requirements then so their plans should look good if(it's the same project team and)they followed through.
So either way I'll take a look.
c
From: Kirk Brooks
Sent:Wednesday, November 8, 2017 4:32 PM
To:Charles Johnstone<CJohnstone@everettwa.gov>
Cc: Benyam Stephanos<BStephanos@everettwa.gov>
Subject: RE: SS17-004(5 lot short plat at 1601 Florida Dr
I have a new burger king plan I am reviewing. I sent you over a copy. It shows a grease interceptor.Thought you might
be interested. What with the flame-broiling and all. KB
i
