Additional Requested Fire Dampers.
o The developed "pressure differentials" over the life -safety doors between the "Patient Zone A"
and the "Connector" should be considered with the possibility of the doors not closing.
Elimination of Flexible Ductwork in Supply Air Duct System (at Diffusers):
o All supply air ductwork is no less than 26 gage thickness. This will provide the proper fire
resistance and prevent the ductwork from failing within the code required time period.
o The system is designed for a "defend -in -place" strategy and is not de -energized during a fire
event. This means that fire and smoke cannot travel back into the ductwork and potential
migrate from on smoke zone to another smoke zone. Even if the fire burns through the flex
duct, the hot gases cannot travel back through the system.
o On other hospital projects with the same control strategy we have typically seen the
requirement for elimination of the flex duct upstream on the rated room only — not
downstream. This interpretation of the code was due to the defend -in -place control strategy.
Stantec Consulting Services Inc.
Finn Jakobsen
Project Manager
Phone: 206-494-5061
Finn.Jakobsen@stantec.com
Design with community in mind
>f v:120481active12048204361coe review commentslmemo for coe.docx
• 33
