8. The following are follow-up questions regarding the moment frames proposed:
a. It appears that a yield strength of 36 ksi steel is being used on the project for the
HSS sections. Typical HSS sections are fabricated with a yield strength of 46 ksi.
Please confirm if the intent is to use 36 ksi steel for the HSS moment frames.
b. The beam callouts appear to be conflicting with each other on Al/S3.0, B1/S3.0 and
5/S3.0. Please clarify which beam callout is to be used in the frame's construction
and revise drawings accordingly.
c. Reviewing the FR connection provided, please clarify using AISC 341-10, which of
the three options is being used to design the FR connections. It currently is unclear
how the details in Al and B1 on S3.0 work together with the updated connections
provided on S4.0.
9. After reviewing the response calculations, it still is unclear which values are being used to
the design against the uplift in the footing as the values in the hand calculations conflict
with the values obtained from the RISA models. Please clarify and provide supporting
documentation justifying the use of values indicated in the hand calculation.
New Structural
12. On Sheet 2.1 of the architectural drawings, 5'-0"of 18"diameter of reinforced concrete
extends from the base of the steel moment frame columns. This would appear to adjust
the behavior (due to a change in section composition) of the steel moment frame, which
does not appear to be reflected in the recently submitted RISA model. Please verify and
update the frame analysis as required.
If you have any questions, please email or call me at (425) 257-7287. Upon submittal of the
drawings, your application will be given priority and plan reviews will recommence. All required
submittals shall be sufficient detail and contain sufficient information to ensure that the proposed
structure will be constructed in compliance with all adopted codes.
Sincerely,
James Bronder, PE, SE
Associate Engineer
Plans Examiner
2 of
CITY OF EVERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8810 • Fax(425) 257-8857
