Riverview Apartments July 78, 2079
Response to Public Works Permit Comments age 2 of 4
CPH No. 0024-17-037; City File No. P W 1906-074 --
c Sheet C3.00-Remediation Plan.
Construction Notes reference "Remediation Notes", however that notes section is
actually titled "Bioremediation Notes" in both Construction note 5 and 7. Which is
correct? Update the plans to be consistent in cross references.
Response: The title has been revised to "Remediation Notes".
The existing 48-inch sewer was recently potholed as part of this remediation project
(under a separate permit). The results of the potholing need to be reflected on the
plans. Please show the sewer main in its full width (to scale) to show the actual utility
and its proximity to the proposed shoring wall, as identified in the field. Call out the
distance from the edge of the pipe to the shoring wall. The City recommends
separation of at least 3ft between the edge of the drilled pile hole and the side of
the sewer pipe trench, which it assumed to be approximately 7ft wide in total,
centered on the pipe, per record drawings.
Response: The pothole information has been added to the plan(s) along with linework to
estimate the total 7-foot wide trench centered on the pipe. As shown, the nearest edge of
the 2-foot diameter piles maintain a minimum 3-foot clearance to the outside of the sewer
trench (i.e., nearest pile is approximately 3.5 feet clear of trench edge). Installation of the
drilled piles and timber lagging will occur from the private property side of the work zone
to further protect existing utilities during construction.
Reme iation Action Plan report -Page 17.
Section 4.4.3.4 Utilities of the report discusses "an emergency sewer bypass will be
needed for excavation options that affect the integrity of the 48-inch-diameter sewer
line" and states that "Other utilities will be temporarily or permanently removed from
the areas of excavation and relocated as needed. See Plate 3 for the approximate
location of all known utilities in the project areas"
1 Is the emergency bypass for the sewer anticipated? If not, is still a possibility
or is this for a different scenario that was not selected? Please clarify. This is
not currently shown on the civil remediation plans, and would need to be
shown if it is an option, even as an alternative on a separate sheet.
Response: An emergency bypass for the existing combined sewer main at the
western edge of East Marine View Drive is not anticipated for the selected
remediation alternative. The selected remedial alternative in the updated
Remedial Action Plan (RAP) was Alt 3A which was further modified so that the
soldier pile shoring and excavation will avoid all utilities. The selected remedial
alternative is named "Alt-3A Mod" in the revised RAP and is shown o ate 12
and described in Section 4-7. T e—previously submitted RAP was completed prior
to completion oft e s oring design and current onsite excavation and right-of-
way bioremediation. The enclosed updated RAP has been corrected accordingly.
Are the other utilities going to be removed and/or relocated? If so, they need
to be shown on the civil remediation plans. Please clarify and update plans as
necessary.
Response: As noted in the above response, the shoring and excavation were
located to avoid disturbance to the 48-inch combined sewer and all existing
utilities. No utilities are planned to be removed or relocated as part of this work.
A concrete encased utility duct bank containing buried power and
communication lines is located between the shoring wall and the existing 48-inch
sewer line. This duct bank will be protected from disturbance during construction.
The enclosed updated RAP has been corrected as necessary.
