N_NI EVERETT
WASHINGTON
City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021
Exhibit A
Program Summary
Organization& Program: Snohomish County Music Project: Music Therapy for Marginalized Communities
These funds will provide up to 100 clinical music therapy sessions for a minimum of 40 of our marginalized
community members who are facing the compound impacts of social isolation, disruptions in routine, physical
health concerns, lack of income, lack of access to typical coping resources, and community-wide anxiety related to
the COVID pandemic. The following is a summary of the types of programs being offered:
Individual Telehealth Music Therapy Sessions for Mental Wellness are offered to children, teens, and adults with or
without a formal mental health diagnosis led by board-certified music therapists to create and use music in ways
that are personally tailored to their specific needs and goals.Sessions are offered in 30-to 60-minute individual
virtual sessions via Zoom.
Teen Community Music Group acts as an extension to other teen programming to provide further support to
marginalized youth at other community sites who want to continue music therapy. By establishing consistent
support,a sense of safety, and trust among participants, this reduces participation barriers for teens who attend
multiple sites.
Queer Group is an arts-based support group offered twice per week to individuals with LGBTQ+identities. Each
session follows a general structure of 1)verbal check-in, 2)arts-based mental health experience and discussion,
and 3)culminating whole-group experience.
Music You-ROCK is a music therapy rock band program that provides opportunities for musical expression and
enjoyment for teens and young adults with developmental disabilities. These programs foster creativity in
participants with various developmental behavioral, social,or cognitive abilities.
8
