EVERETT
WASHINGTON
City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021
Exhibit A
Program Summary
Organization&Program: Faith Lutheran Church: Hot Meal Coalition &Faith Food Bank
The Everett Hot Meal Coalition and Faith Food Bank project provides free food and meals to Everett
residents facing food insecurity. Hot nutritious meals are provided daily by multiple Everett meal
programs which provide 1,100+meals per week to Everett residents. Meal sites serve 80 to 140 meals
per sitting. The clientele served are low-income Everett residents experiencing food insecurity. Many
are homeless, live in their vehicle or temporary shelter, or attend seasonal shelter sites or live in low-
income housing. All people are welcome. A centrally located food storage warehouse is maintained,
stocked with bulk food and supplies, and used by meal programs to supplement their food and supply
needs. Coalition members coordinate efforts, activities, meals, and share resources to reduce costs and
maximize efficiencies in serving large community meals. The Faith Food Bank provides customized
nutritious food boxes to 400+Everett families every week. The food bank is connected to the local
network of food banks and food pantries operating in Everett and Snohomish County and shares food
and resources to ensure food quantities and basic household items provided are benefitting families in
need in Everett. The food bank utilizes a large base of volunteers and staff to glean and gather food
stocks, build food boxes, prepare for food box distribution, and manage crowds and line-up of cars, and
hand out 400+ food boxes each week in central Everett.
In 2020, with the COVID-19 Pandemic, community meal programs and food banks adjusted quickly by
adopting safety measures to ensure safe distribution of food and meals such as traffic and line control,
social distancing, providing all meals to go, mask wearing and providing mask to clients, hand
sanitizing, wearing of gloves, and coordinating these efforts with Snohomish Health District for the
safety of volunteers, staff, clients and the community. The process of food and meals distribution has
changed, and meal program cost have increased as a result of COVID-19. Human Needs funds will
specifically be used to purchase food, food supplies (to-go containers, kitchen and meal preparation
supplies, etc), and will fund staff necessary to manage and support the Faith Food Bank operations and
the Everett Hot Meal Coalition food storage warehouse. Funds in 2021 are vital to funding food,
supplies, and staff support to provide food and meals to Everett residents facing food insecurity —
particularly with respect to higher costs of providing meals and staff support necessary to provide safe
services during the COVID-19 global pandemic.
7
