EVERETT
WASHINGTON
City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021
Exhibit A
Program Summary
Organization&Program: Compass Health:Cocoon House Homeless Shelter Counseling
Compass Health provides a mental health clinician to deliver specialized services to homeless youth ages 12-18 at two
Cocoon House sites in Everett. We provide individualized engagement therapy; individual,group, and family therapy;
regular and ongoing consultation to Cocoon staff who work with youth 24/7; and help with crisis planning. Compass Health
staff bring a deep clinical understanding of the behaviors that youth may be exhibiting related to symptoms of a mental
illness and help with the overall treatment plan for youth during their stay at Cocoon House.
Treatment focuses on building daily living skills such as emotion regulation, evaluating life choices and consequences,
maintaining family connections, developing healthy relationships, and conflict resolution. Treatment strategies consist of
cognitive behavioral treatments as well as motivational interviewing, both of which are evidence-based practices, and allow
for greater autonomy for the youth. The treatment process is important not only to address the mental health concerns
that arise in counseling, but also to provide an understanding that there are indeed adults in the community who can be
trusted and that assistance is available.
City of Everett Funds will help Compass Health continue to provide the necessary clinical support staffing for service
delivery.
The Compass Health clinical staff member who is on-site at Cocoon House locations is a Master's level clinician with many years
of experience working with at-risk and homeless youth.
The clinician is supervised by a Licensed Mental Health Professional who is also a Child Mental Health Specialist, also with many
years of experience working with youth and families. Additionally, our staff participates in bi-monthly consultations with a
licensed psychologist to discuss cases and strategies as necessary.
The clinical staff member also receives administrative support from an off-site office manager.
The Youth Counseling Program is a collaborative program among Compass Health, Cocoon House, and other community
agencies providing mental and behavioral health services to homeless youth and their families.
Service agencies with whom we collaborate include Cocoon House, Everett School District, Community Health Center(CHC has
an MOU with Cocoon House) providing physicals and other medical services on site,Juvenile Justice, Catholic Community
Services(CCS has an MOU with Cocoon House) and SeaMar for Chemical Dependency; Providence and Dawson Place work with
Cocoon House regarding human trafficking(Cocoon House also has 3 internal people who do this as well);Worksource, DCYF.
7
