- EVERETT <br /> WASHINGTON <br /> •Connecting teens to counseling for emotional disturbances, including eating disorders and suicidal <br /> thoughts/actions. <br /> Specific examples of intervention for parents(which in turn, supports the child)include: <br /> •Referrals to parenting classes to understand the development of their child and positive parenting techniques. <br /> • Supporting the parents with setting up morning routines and getting their child to school on time. <br /> • Supporting parents of physically aggressive children, connecting them with parenting strategies and referrals to <br /> behavior specialists. <br /> •Helping parents understand the At-Risk Youth petition and court system process,the Becca Bill(truancy and <br /> compulsory attendance law), and Everett's alternative public school system.If these measures are necessary for the <br /> family,the Specialists will support the parents and children throughout the processes. <br /> •Provide parent engagement events,which increase parent social supports and promote school engagement skills. <br /> Target Population: <br /> The Child and Family Specialist program targets homeless and low-income children age birth to 17 years either <br /> residing in Housing Hope's Everett Emergency Shelter or Service Supported Homeless Housing sites or children <br /> receiving care at Tomorrow's Hope Child Development Center in South Everett. The Specialists will serve <br /> approximately 50 unduplicated children per year who reside in the City of Everett. <br /> How and When Services Will Be Provided: <br /> The Child and Family Specialists provide services on an as-needed basis when a referral is made. The Specialists <br /> offer their services until either the family stabilizes or the family is connected with the appropriate community <br /> service.The primary sources of referrals include: <br /> •Entry into Housing Hope's programs and housing: The Family Support Coach(formerly called Case Manager)and <br /> the family draw up an initial plan to stabilize the family, including assessments of the children by the Specialist and <br /> referrals to specialized services.Also,the referral may come at a later time if the Family Support Coach notices <br /> developmental delays or safety issues. <br /> •CPS involvement: Referrals for services happen as children transition in or out of the home due to CPS <br /> involvement. <br /> • School Districts: School Districts, including the Everett School District,can refer children for services to <br /> coordinate with the Specialist and support the parents in moving their children forward. <br /> Services are generally provided to the child or parent in the home or on-site at Tomorrow's Hope,one-on-one,or in <br /> small groups by the Child and Family Specialist as needed. <br /> Staffing: <br /> Housing Hope currently employs two Child and Family Specialists equaling 2 FTE,Maribeth Darst, and Denise <br /> Hollenbeck.Ms.Darst,a full-time Child and Family Specialist,holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and <br /> M.A. in Psychology and has over 5 years' experience as a Child and Family Specialist. She is a certified "The <br /> Incredible Years"parenting course instructor and has worked with high-risk youth in group home settings.Ms. <br /> Cremin,a full-time Child and Family Specialist,holds a B.A. in Human Services from Western Washington <br /> University and a Masters in Social Work from Eastern Washington University. She has over 16 years of experience <br /> in the Human Services and Social Work fields,with a heavy concentration of work with children and families. Ms. <br /> Hollenbeck,a full-time Child and Family Specialist,holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and has over 20 years <br /> of experience in the social services field. <br /> Lynda Plummer,Director of Social Services, supervises this program. She holds a B.A. in Human Services and has <br /> over 20 years of leadership experience,as well as more than 30 years of experience working in the social services <br /> field. <br /> 9 <br />
