ARCHITECTURE
April 17, 2018
James Bronder
Engineering Public Services Department
City of.Everett
3200 Cedar Street
Everett, WA 98201
Re: Building Permit Review Letter - Structural
North Middle School Modernization
NAC Project #121-16027
Owner: Everett School District
job Address: 2514 Rainier Ave
Plan Check No: B1711-003
Dear Mr. Bronder,
Below are the Structural plan review comments from your January 2, 2018 letter, along with responses in bold
italic text from our structural engineer Coughlin Porter Lundeen.
Structural
1. It appears there's missing references to Notes 14 and 23 on Sheets 51.01 and 51.02. Please
clarify and revise as required. On Note 14, the missinggeneral structural note reference has
been added and on Note 23, the missing detail reference has been removed. See updated
sheets S1.01 and 51.02.
2. On Details 15/54.01 & 17/54.01, it appears that a connection is being called out with a missing
reference. Please clarify. A detail reference has been added to these details. See updated
detail 15/S4.01 and 17/S4.01 and new detail 14/S4.01.
On the permit calculations, it appears that there is masonry. veneer utilized as cladding material, it
appears that wind was the governing pressure to design the exterior framing, please confirm that
seismic out -plane -loads were computed and that they do not govern the design on the cladding
supports, especially where masonry veneeroccurs. Wind is the governing out -of -plane force. See
supplementary calculation page SC-1.
4. For the lateral force resisting system of the covered play structure, it appears that (1) steel moment
frame is provided in each orthogonal direction. In this sense, the "frames appear to be cantilevering
off of each other". Please describe the load path to the steel moment frames in each direction of
lateral loading. All frames around the perimeter of the covered play structure are steel moment
frames so there is a line. of resistance along each side of the rectangular structure.
/ >2025 First Avenue, Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98121-3131
206 441 4522 / nacarchitecture.com
Seattle / Spokane / Los Angeles
