I
1 For mainline planing operations, the equipment shall have automatic controls, with
I2 sensors for either or both sides of the equipment. The controls shall be capable of
3 sensing the proper grade from an outside reference line, or a mat-referencing device.
4 The automatic controls shall also be capable of maintaining the desired transverse slope.
I 5 The transverse slope controller shall be capable of maintaining the mandrel at the
6 desired slope (expressed as a percentage)within plus or minus 0.1 percent.
7
8 Pre-level course is not anticipated on any of the selected streets. If, however, after
9 plaining operations, drivability issues cannot be resolved with 2" overlay, pre-level will be
10 required as directed and paid for by "HMA Class 1/2" PG 64-22", per ton. Contractor is
11 strongly encouraged to bid the work to cover their cost of pre-level operations.
12
13 5-04.3(14)A Paving and Planing Under Traffic
I14
15 5-04.3(14)A1 General
I 16 In addition the requirements of Section 1-07.23 and the traffic controls required in
17 Section 1-10, and unless the Contract specifies otherwise or the Engineer approves, the
18 Contractor must comply with the following:
I 19
20 1. Intersections:
21 a. Keep intersections open to traffic at all times, except when paving or planing
I 22 operations through an intersection requires closure. Such closure must be kept
23 to the minimum time required to place and compact the HMA mixture, or plane
24 as appropriate. For paving, schedule such closure to individual lanes or portions
I 25 thereof that allows the traffic volumes and schedule of traffic volumes required in
26 the approved traffic control plan. Schedule work so that adjacent intersections
27 are not impacted at the same time and comply with the traffic control restrictions
28 required by the Contracting Agency. Each individual intersection closure or
I29 partial closure, must be addressed in the traffic control plan, which must be
30 submitted to and accepted by the Engineer, see Section 1-10.2(2).
31 b. When planing or paving and related construction must occur in an
I32 intersection, schedule and sequence such work into quarters of the intersection,
33 or half or more of an intersection with side street detours unless otherwise
34 directed by the Engineer. Be prepared to sequence the work to individual lanes
35 or portions thereof.
36 c. Allow new compacted HMA asphalt to cool to ambient temperature before
37 any traffic is allowed on it. Traffic is not allowed on newly placed asphalt until
I38 approval has been obtained from the Engineer.
39 2. Temporary centerline marking, post-paving temporary marking, temporary stop
40 bars, and maintaining temporary pavement marking must comply with Section 8-
I 41 23.
42 3. Permanent pavement marking must comply with Section 8-22.
I 43
44
45 5-04.3(15) Vacant
I46
47 5-04.3(16) HMA Road Approaches
I
2021 PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE OVERLAY PAGE 69 OF 84 DIVISION T
WORK ORDER 3751 MARCH 29,2021
