(GTS) is pleased to submit this report summarizing
I the results of our geotechnical engineering investigation for the above-referenced project.
The purpose of this evaluation was to establish general subsurface conditions beneath
the site from which conclusions and recommendations for project design could be
Iformulated. Specifically, our scope of services included the following tasks:
• Exploration of soil and groundwater conditions underlying the site by conducting a
total of four hollow-stem auger exploratory borings in the project vicinity.
I
• Laboratorytestingon representative samples in order to classifyand evaluate the
P
engineering characteristics and infiltration potential of the soils encountered.
I • Provide this written report containing a description of the general geologic
conditions, subsurface soils and groundwater conditions. Also presented in this
I report are our findings and recommendations pertaining to site preparation and
earthwork, fill and compaction, wet weather construction and seismic design
considerations. Included within these recommendations is a discussion of post-
!! construction settlement, slab-on-grade construction, drainage, resistance to lateral
loads, temporary and permanent slopes, utilities, geotechnical consultation and
construction monitoring.
IPROJECT DESCRIPTION
I The subject property is currently occupied by the Denney Juvenile Justice Center campus.
GTS understands that there are plans to construct a building addition to this existing
campus. The proposed area of addition is currently developed with driveway access,
automobile parking, and landscape features. The parcel is approximately 9-acres in size
Iand is located in an urban setting within the City of Everett, Washington (Vicinity Map,
Figure 1). The new addition is anticipated to be a two-story building and is to contain
conventional perimeter or spread footings, slab-on-grade floors and steel framing
1
elements. GTS was provided conceptual site plans by the Snohomish County Facilities
Management prior to the composition of this report. GTS had not been provided with
structural loads, but it is expected that the building loads will be light to moderate.
I
IPage 1 of 17
