'2491
Page 4
The code states that buildings which are 'not provided with adequate
egress are,' 'for the purpose of this section, unsafe' (Sec. 203 UBC
1995). Such unsafe conditions are to be abated by repair or
rehabilitation. Failure to provide such repair or rehabilitation could
result in an order to vacate the offending areas.
Therefore:
Under permit of the City of Everett Building Department, provide an
approved means of egress from the second, third, and fourth floors.
16. Provide approved illuminated exit sign(s) to indicate location of rear
exit.
a. main floor
19. Provide approved placard(s), having six (6) inch lettering on a
contrasting background, indicating the fire exit(s).
a. basement
20. Remove all flammable/combustible storage.
a. main storage area on the fourth floor --the sprinkler protection in
this room is badly compromised by the many existing ducts. We
recommend this storage be moved to the larger storage area. The
area's sprinkler protection is much better there (see item #21.).
21. Remove and properly dispose of the accumulation of combustible debris.
a. large storage area on fourth floor --clean up and organization of
this area along with item t20 would be a marked improvement
22. Strictly enforce the 'NO SMOKING' restriction.
a. throughout fourth floor storage area
23. An automatic closing fire door exists in the opening between the main
building and the annex. Operation of this fire door has been compromised
in two ways:
a. An electrical cable has been installed in the downward path of this
fire door. This may or may not result in improper operation of the
door.
b. The detection device has been covered by a ceiling tile. This will
very seriously hamper the timely operation of the fire door.
Therefore, restore the proper operational conditions for the fire door.
