Cascade High School Subsurface Exploration and
Synthetic Turf Field Geotechnical Engineering Report
Everett, Washington Project and Site Conditions
I. PROJECT AND SITE CONDITIONS
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of our subsurface exploration and geotechnical engineering
study for the proposed Cascade High School synthetic turf field: The site location is shown on
the "Vicinity Map," Figure 1. Existing site features and the approximate locations of the
subsurface explorations referenced in this study, are presented on the "Site and Exploration
Plan," Figure 2. Exploration boring logs and laboratory testing results are included in the
Appendix. This report is based on information provided by D.A. Hogan & Associates, Inc. (D.A.
Hogan) via electronic mail and our previous experience on the project site. Associated Earth
Sciences, Inc. (AESI) provided geotechnical engineering services in support of portable
classroom placements on campus in 1998. At the time this report was written, project plans
were still being formulated.
1.1 Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this study was to provide subsurface soil and shallow ground water data to be
utilized in the design of the proposed Cascade High School synthetic turf field. Our study
included a review of selected available geologic literature, completing six hollow -stem auger
soil borings, and performing geologic studies to assess the type, thickness, distribution, and
physical properties of the subsurface sediments and shallow ground water. Laboratory testing
of grain -size distribution and organic content was completed on selected samples retrieved
from the borings and results of the laboratory tests are included in the Appendix. A
geotechnical engineering study was completed to determine geotechnical recommendations
regarding site preparation, structural fill, turf subgrade preparation, and general
recommendations for site drainage design. This report summarizes our current fieldwork and
offers development recommendations based on our present understanding of the project.
1.2 Authorization
Our study was accomplished in general accordance with our proposal dated February 10, 2017.
This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of D.A. Hogan, and their agents, for specific
application to this project. Within the limitations of scope, schedule, and budget, our services
have been performed in accordance with generally accepted geotechnical engineering and
engineering geology practices in effect in this area at the time our report was prepared. No
other warranty, express or implied, is made.
March 20, 2017 ASSOCIATED EARTH SCIENCES, INC.
DDV/pc-170081ED01-2-ProJectSJ20170081JKEJWP Page 1
