This grant was recently awarded to the city and will cover 90% of the cost providing the city with significant savings. The grant requires the city to cover 10% of the cost which amounts to $7,510.00. These costs are already included in the 2021 budget for fire. Project summary statement: The Fire Department will purchase a total of 165 firehose nozzles with the funding this grant provides. The new nozzles will improve the capability of fire crews to effectively engage fires and put them out as quickly as possible. The current inventory of firehose nozzles is not consistent between units, require more maintenance and greater water pressure making them harder to handle and potentially greater risk of injury to the firefighters. Recommendation (exact action requested of Council): Authorize the Mayor to accept the Assistance to Firefighters Grant for the purchase of new firehose nozzles in the amount of $75,100. with a match from the city of $7,510 for a total amount of $82,610.
