It is highly probable that the 1-hr fire resistive
requirements will be problematic in this older building that may not be strictly one-hour construction. Fire
stopping alone through a fire-resistive floor-ceiling assembly may prove overly burdensome in a conversion from
an (assumed) non-rated building to a rated one.
The quick-fix for both of these issues is to 'moth-ball'the second floor for now.As long as the 2nd floor has no use or
occupancy other than access to building services including storage of any kind, the work on the first floor can continue
as proposed. When a use for the second floor is desired, additional permits for the re-habitation of that floor can occur
at that time.As we agreed, I am 'red-lining'the plans to clarify this. If the situation changes please let me know. I have
included the fire marshal regarding this decision and have no other comments regarding the Building review.Thank you,
Tony
Tony Lee
16 Building Official I Permit Services
425.257.8812 13200 Cedar Street, 2"d Floor, Everett,WA 98201
EVERETT Hours: M/W/Th/F: 7:30am-12:00pm & 1:OOpm-3:00pm;Tu: 1:OOpm-3:o0pm
everettwa.gov I Facebook I Twitter
COVID-19 Update: Please reference our website& online resources for updates to our service during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
