The General Structural Notes on sheet S-1.0 states that the design was performed to the IRC. However, it appears the structural design has been performed to the IBC and the AWC NDS-15. The 2015 IBC should be referenced in the notes. See IRC Section 301.1.3. 2. The construction of the proposed structure is not clear. A sketch is included in the structural calculations providing an incomplete section through the roof and house. A section should be included in the construction drawings showing the required construction. The section should include the elevation(s) and slope for the roof. The location of the east posts should also be dimensioned. The east side of the structure shall comply with the fire-resistance construction requirements of IRC Section R302. See IRC Section 106.1.1, and IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 1603.1. 3. The vertical load path for the proposed roof includes support by the existing structure on the west side. Details for the proposed connections, including modifications to the interior wall covering to install blocking, should be included in the construction drawings. Calculations substantiating the connections should be submitted for review. See IRC Section 106.1.1 and IBC Section 107.2.1. 4. The lateral load path for the roof structure is not clear. The east side appears intended to act as a cantilever column system for the north-south loading. However, the west side and the east-west direction appear to rely on the existing structure for lateral support. The structure should be designed for lateral support per Section 12.8 and 12.1.3. Calculations substantiating the load path should be submitted for review. The existing structure should be evaluated per IEBC Section 1103.3. See IBC Sections 101.4.7 and 1613.1. 5. The 2x10 rafters bear on the 48 beams along the east edge of the proposed structure. Connection do not appear to be provided. Connections should be specified providing adequate strength for both lateral load transfer and resistance to uplift. Calculations substantiating the connection design should be submitted for review. 6. The roof framing does not appear to be provided with adequate weather protection to prevent exposure and deterioration, notably around the perimeter. The project should specify flashing around the perimeter, or alternatively the use of preservative-treated or naturally-durable wood. Cut ends of wood members should be coated with a preservative treatment comply with AWPA M4. See IRC Sections R317.1.1 and R903 7. The proposed design includes penetrating the existing roof with new posts. Details for flashing to weatherproof the roof membrane and soffit should be included in the construction documents.
