Development on Urban Corridors Everett Housing Action Plan 26 <br /> <br />appropriate intensity and mix of development, including both employment and housing options, <br />that support transit service; and plan for growth near transit. <br /> Everett Comprehensive Plan <br />The current Housing Element of the City of Everett includes the following: <br />G. Multiple Family Housing Location and Compatibility <br />Policy 4.7.1 Encourage multiple family development and redevelopment in downtown, in mixed-use <br />residential-commercial centers, along mixed-use arterial corridors, and near major employment areas. <br />Policy 4.7.2 Update design guidelines to ensure that new multiple family housing enhances and is <br />compatible with surrounding uses, yet respects the needs of consumers for affordable housing. <br />The Land Use Element of the current City of Everett section on commercial Mixed-Use Land Use <br />Policies includes the following: <br />2.2 Commercial Mixed-Use Land Use Policies <br />The Land Use Element must provide sufficient capacity of land suitable for development to <br />accommodate employment growth, including commercial activities serving the needs of the Everett <br />community and the surrounding areas Snohomish County. Historically, Everett has designated excessive <br />amounts of commercial land in its land use plans and zoning. Therefore, the land use policies will <br />continue to emphasize the integration of housing in commercial areas, and the improvement of existing <br />commercial districts. <br />Policy 2.2.4 Identify on the Land Use Map appropriate areas in which to apply commercial mixed-use <br />land use designations. Use the following criteria as a guide to establishing zoning districts and <br />implementing regulations: <br />(a) Mixed Use Commercial-Multiple Family Corridors: Areas where businesses are oriented to <br />the shopping and service needs of the Everett community and surrounding areas of <br />Snohomish County, and in which new development and redevelopment is encouraged to <br />include housing and other supportive services and uses. <br />See also, the State legislative directive included in 3.1 Introduction <br /> Climate Action Plan <br />Several goals and strategies of the Climate Action apply to the Housing Action Plan strategies for <br />development on urban corridors including: <br />Goal T-1: Embrace non-car travel. <br />Strategy T-1:1: Prioritize, incentivize, and promote transportation by biking, walking, and transit. <br />Strategy T-1:2: Reduce commute. <br />Goal LU-1: Create centralized activity centers with a dense and diverse mix of services, amenities, jobs, <br />and housing types in areas well-served by public transit. <br />Strategy LU-1.1: Support intentional high-density development. <br />Goal LU-2: Develop vibrant, health, and livable neighborhoods. <br />Strategy LU-2.1: Improve neighborhood walkability. <br />
