Two 4x8 <br /> window headers, 4'-0" span, and the associated trimmers will need to be replaced like-for-like. <br /> Under the General Definitions section 202 of the 2015 International Existing Building Code, the <br /> replacement does not qualify as Substantial Structural Damage and are considered repairs. See below <br /> for definitions reproduced from the code. <br /> Additionally, per sections 404 and 606, all repairs must be completed in a manor that restores the <br /> existing conditions to predamage condition. There is no requirement to follow the Level II or Level III <br /> method of repair. <br /> Section 202 General Definitions <br /> IA] Repair. The reconstruction or renewal of any part of an existing building for the purpose of <br /> its maintenance or to correct damage. <br /> (8SJ Substantial Structural Damage. A condition where one or both of the following apply: <br /> 1. The vertical elements of the lateral force-resisting system have suffered damage such <br /> that the lateral load-carrying capacity of any story in any horizontal direction has <br /> been reduced by more than 33 percent from its predamage condition. <br /> 2. The capacity of any vertical component carrying gravity load, or any group of such <br /> components, that supports more than 30 percent of the total area of the structure's <br /> floor(s) and roof(s) has been reduced more than 20 percent from its predamage <br /> condition and the remaining capacity of such affected elements, with respect to all <br /> dead and live loads, is less than 75 percent of that required by this code for new <br /> buildings of similar structure, purpose and location. <br /> Section 404 Repairs <br /> 404.4 Less than Substantial Structural Damage: for damage less than substantial structural damage, <br /> repairs shall be allowed that restore the building to its predamage state.
