We've decided this work can be performed without a permit. We are citing IRC Section R105.2
Building Exemption 6,which exempts finishing work—"painting, papering...and similar finish work". This is based on the
understanding that the furring is purely finishing to conceal the new electrical, which cannot be installed in the existing
walls because they are CMU block. We recommend insulating the depth of the cavity to the extent possible before
closing, though this is not strictly required. A rigid insulation that is moisture resistant is recommended. Ultimately, all
work should still comply with any applicable provisions of the code.
Ni—Steve—Please print and place a copy of this conversation in the file for the electrical permit.
Drew Martin, P.E.,S.E.
L.
lin Associate Engineer—Commercial Plans Examiner I Permit Services
425.257.8813 13200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett,WA 98201
EVERETT Hours: M/W/Th/F: 7:30am-12:00pm & 1:00pm-3:O0pm;Tu: 1:00pm-3:0Opm
everettwa.gov I Facebook I Twitter
COVID-19 Update: Please reference our website& online resources for updates to our service during the
COVID-19 pandemic. I told them that I am an electrical inspector. I do not have the
authority to ok sheetrock only electrical rough in. I told them if they need permission to sheetrock that would be
approved only by a building inspector. If a building permit is needed then a building permit should be purchased. I do
not know if a building permit is required for their installation.
Thank you,
1
