Also, one roof-mounted
HVAC unit will be replaced at a new location (old one removed) and a new
one installed with similar installation. It is a one-story tenant unit in an
existing building. The layout of the existing roof has been verified by field
measurement. Weights of units are per manufacturer. Documentation is
attached.
Comments/Evaluation Results.
1. The tenant space is 21' 8"wide and 60 feet long. A major glulam beam
crosses the space 20 feet to the front of the rear wall. Running front to
back are 2" x 4" (Paralam LVL) by 34.5" high wood roof trusses at 4 foot
spacing.
Note the glulam is a measured 6.75"wide by 31" deep, with a length of 40
feet, with a field verified column about 1.5 feet inside the tenant space
near the left side. It continues its 40 foot length to the right beyond the
right side tenant space wall. It is evaluated for both the replaced and
added HVAC units, for their more or less direct load bearing on the beam.
All new kitchen related roof-mounted units are evaluated. An existing
smaller HVAC unit on the same beam for the tenant space to the right is
included in the major beam evaluation. The beam is within capacity with
the new unit installation.
2. Per attached calculations the 34.5" high roof trusses in the front 40 feet
of the building have no additional moment capacity beyond existing basic
roof loading. The trusses are open lattice 2.0 Paralam LVL (Truss Chord
rated) top and bottom chord and cannot be reinforced to provide additional
moment capacity. The solution is to block beneath the trusses with mid-
span cross-beams with posts in the new building internal front-to-back wall
and side walls. The solid post blocking will reduce the effective span for
the trusses from 40 feet down to about 28 foot maximum span. With the
added post and cross beam blocking under affected trusses (assumed all
trusses), the two new Exhaust Fans#1 and #2 may be installed without
otherwise altering the roof structure. Similarly, the new Makeup Air(MUA)
may be safely installed. ` I L\
