As the county seat and location for many related services,Everett has been particularly impacted. Additional resources are urgently needed to coordinate response efforts to connect unsheltered residents with services and shelter,and to provide ongoing safety and sanitation for our businesses and neighborhoods. This amendment will fund a Homelessness Response Coordinator position to develop and coordinate strategies to alleviate chronic homelessness. The new Coordinator position will be added to the Community Development team. A three-person street crew is also proposed to respond to and address encampments. Additionally,this amendment increases the Non-Departmental Abatement provision by$50,000 to provide funding to engage a private contractor to assist City staff in cleanup efforts as needed. Appropriation for the staffing in this amendment is for a partial year to allow departments to hire before year-end;however,these positions are included as full-year,ongoing provisions in the 2022 Proposed Operating Budget. The intent of this program is to provide temporary housing for households experiencing homelessness and residing in unsanctioned encampments in Everett.
