These new units will be located in
existing mechanical rooms, and based on existing building drawings the floor framing for
these mechanical rooms was designed for a live load of 75 PSF. DCI Engineers performed
calculations of the existing floor framing and found that in the three mechanical rooms where
the EVR-1, EVR-2 and EVR-3 units will be located the allowable uniform mechanical loading
was a minimum of 75 PSF. See attached calculations.
Two new large replacement mechanical units are planned for the two main existing 2nd floor
mechanical rooms. These units are named EVR-1 and EVR-2.
EVR-1 has a weight of 8,352 pounds with plan dimensions of roughly 6'x 16'.This creates a
uniform loading to the floor of 87 PSF. But with sleepers added to increase the length of the
unit to 19'the uniform loading is 73 PSF. See attached calculations.
EVR-2 has a weight of 11,328 pounds with plan dimensions of roughly 7'-8"x 17'. This
creates a uniform loading to the floor joists of 87 PSF. The existing floor joists and beams in
this area were checked and found to be capable of supporting an 87 PSF mechanical load.
See attached calculations.
Based on our review, the proposed EVR-1 and EVR-2 can be installed without any retrofit to
the existing structure.
The new unit connections and sleeper requirements are shown in SSK-01 and SSK-02,
attached.
Other small equipment and ducting will also be added. These items are less than 150
pounds, so no specific design checks have been performed by DCI Engineers. Another unit,
labeled as EVR-3 will be installed in a mechanical loft located between grids 6.7 and 8. The
EVR-3 has a weight of 268 pounds with a footprint of 5'-6"x 4'-9"for a distributed load of
10.25 PSF which is much less than the allowed 75 PSF floor design load. All these items can
be installed with typical connections to the structure.
Please contact this office with any questions concerning this matter. \,E L• J
1
r ....
3>, 47670 ,c'S
; k11.
