5. Given the distance from the driveway to the planting area I highly recommend hiring day -labor support for
planting and mulching activities. If you do, you will need to directly supervise and oversee quality control.
6. VERY IMPORTANT: Due to the late season planting project, summer irrigation is necessary. Install temporary
irrigation once all plantings are intalled. If using soaker hoses, install these prior to applying mulch so hoses are
covered by the mulch. Water 1-2x week in cool weather; 3-4x week in drought/hot weather (80+ deg.).
7. Keep areas around trees and shrubs in the planting zone clear of competition from weeds by hand -pulling or
grubbing (with minor disturbance to soils).
Knotweed Control Recommendations
You have some control options in regards to the Bohemian or Japanese knotweed patch in the backyard: A) Apply
multi -year herbicide with either stem injection to mature stems (with pure concentrate Round-up/Glyphosate) or
foliar application (with diluted Round-up/Glyphosate) OR B) Cover infestation area with loose black fabric for a
minimum of 5 years in order to smother and inhibit photosynthesis and keep maintained. The best resource for
knotweed manangement steps is King County Noxious Weeds.
