I
4
.ten.
GEO Group Northwest, Inc. Geotechnical Engineers,Geologists,
&Environmental Scientists
February 6th,2018 G-4588
Mr. Chad Scott
chad@tmms.com
Subject: Revegetation Recommendations for Steep Slope
Proposed Addition to Single-Family Residence
2525 Taylor Drive
Everett,WA 98203
Reference: "Geotechnical Evaluation—North-Facing Steep Slope"prepared by GEO Group
Northwest dated 1/26/18
Dear Mr. Scott,
As requested, GEO Group Northwest has prepared this letter to provide recommendations for
revegetation on the north-facing steep slope at 2325 Taylor Drive.
Background:
Per the referenced geotechnical evaluation, sizeable amounts of yard waste appeared to have been
dumped onto the slope as observed during the site visit on 1/17/18.The yard waste was observed in the
area of the slope that extended from the top of the slope to approximately 15-feet from the top of the
slope, and obscured any existing vegetation that could be growing underneath. This yard waste could pose
a risk to the steep slope,because(1)this looser material could migrate down the slope and become a
landslide hazard,and(2)the material could smother and kill existing vegetation on the slope that offer
slope stability benefits to the slope(see referenced report for more details).Because of these concerns,it
has been proposed to revegetate the area with native plants as a measure to improve slope stability.
Recommendations for revegetation are provided in the next section.
Revegetation Recommendations:
In preparation for revegetation, the organic debris within approximately 15-ft of the top of the slope
should be removed, with care to avoid disturbing the topography or existing vegetation already growing
on the slope.Additionally, any invasive plant species, such as blackberry bushes or ivy, should be cleared
from the revegetation area. Once cleared, GEO Group Northwest recommends jute netting be installed
over the revegetation area and anchored in place using staples, which will serve to stabilize the slope until
newly planted plants become established. Openings can easily be cut in the jute netting when planting the
plants.
13705 Bel-Red Road • Bellevue,Washington 98005
Phone 425/649-8757 • Fax 425/649-8758
