•
Feb. 3, 2021
Re: correction letter
Tom Hutchinson,
I think there may be a communication issue with the reviewer.
The code in section R502.1.1.1 Building envelope(exception)says"where non-conditioned
space is changed to conditioned space, the building envelope of the addition shall comply
where the UA, as determined in Section R402.1.4 of the existing building and the addition... is
less than or equal to the UA generated for the existing building."
I did 2 pairs of calculations on the 3`a,0,5th and 6th tab sof the workbook, and looks like he is
only responding to the 4th tab.The "code target values" are not relevant, just the"proposed
design" in each tab. This proposal is calculating the windows upgrade for the whole house
which was done as part of the addition. We are comparing"proposed design"from the pre
existing building to the "proposed design"for the new building.
I tried to make it more clear here with the worksheets printed out in pair A.This option,
counting the window upgrade from the original single pane windows as part of the remodel, is
UA 527 existing and 468 new,which complies.
Hope that clarifies it.
Tom Balderston
9
