Ms. Courtney Crosby •
Plan Check Number: B2004-017, Second Structural Review
August 5, 2020
8. This comment has not been addressed. The use of the structure is changing and is required to
comply with the requirements for new construction. This was addressed in the letter dated
06/05/20, section 2.8. There will be no new wood elements near grade. However, all current
near grade are all preservative treated wood with no cuts or holes.
Original Comment: The project appears to include wood elements located near grade. All
structural wood including sheathing that is located within 8 inches of exposed earth or 2 inches
of impervious surfaces should be naturally-durable or preservative-treated wood, respectively.
Preservative-treated wood should comply with AWPA U1. The drawings should specify that cuts
and holes in preservative-treated wood should be applied with a preservative treatment. See
IBC Sections 2304.12.1.2 and 2304.12.1.5.
Foundation System:
9. This comment has not been addressed. A foundation plan has not been provided. The
foundation information provided does not appear to completely represent the existing
foundations (see comments above). Photograph of the existing foundations appear to indicate
the wood posts bear on a concrete pedestal of unknown construction. It is unclear if a positive
connection exists between the posts and foundations. This was addressed in answers on #6.
Footings have a rebar through the center and are encased in Concrete.
Original Comment: The foundations for the deck are undefined. A foundation plan should be
provided. Details for both new and existing foundation construction should be provided for
review. Existing foundations should be detailed sufficiently to evaluate their proposed
performance for the modified structure. See IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 1603.1.
Lateral System:
11. This comment has not been completely addressed. The original comment addressed the
addition of C5x6.1 framing to the existing structure. See IBC Section 107.2.1. The following
comments should be addressed: It's C5x6.7
a. Drawing B appears to show the C6 sistering to only two of the five existing beams. The
purpose of this new framing should be clarified. This should include stating why the other
three beams due not require additional framing. There are only two beams, which was
outlined in Drawing A on our previous submission. These beams are going East-West, and
there are 6 Joists, North-South
b. Continuing with the previous comment, clarify if portions of the existing structure are
deteriorated. No portions are deteriorated. They were/are impeccably maintained.
c. The C6 should be provide with connections to either the existing beams or decking, or both.
Connections were outlined in Drawing B with specific details on the side.
d. Drawing B appears to include notes for the connection of the C6 to the existing structure.
These are not sufficient to show the required construction. A detail should be provided.
Detail was provided on the right of the drawing.
KM 3200 Cedar Street ij 425.257.8810 i, everetteps@everettwa.gov
--" Everett, WA 98201 `— 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
Page 5 of 7
