Today, GeoDesign noted that
DDS had backfilled the over-excavated areas with a 2-inch clean crushed railroad ballast material which had been
compacted using the bucket of an excavator.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the foundation subgrade area observed today is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material be removed from the base of
the footing areas prior to'the placement of concrete.
Lot 238:
Upon arrival, GeoDesign noted that DDS had completed excavation of the footing and crawl space area for Lot 238.
GeoDesign noted that the exposed foundation subgrade consisted of a gray to gray-brown silty SAND (f-m)with gravel (f-c)
and a brown SILT with sand. Penetration depths along the north side were generally less than 2 inches using a 1/2 inch
diameter soil probe. Penetration depths along the west, south, and east sides ranged from 6 inches to 18 inches.
GeoDesign recommended that the areas be over-excavated down to firm and unyielding material and brought back to
grade with structural fill.
Craig with DDS stated that the over-excavated areas would be over-excavated and backfilled with a crushed rock or
recycled concrete material later this week.
The client and contractor were notified of our observations prior to our departure from the site.
A summary of our observations and density tests can be found in the attached Figure 1, Nuclear Density Gauge Data, and
Photo Log.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services,We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewed By"section.
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 I Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900
2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 I 253.203.0095
