I researched your inquiry about the garage alteration at 2206 7th Ave. as requested, here are my findings and recommendations. A permit was located in our Laserfiche records for the addition of a carport to the original house dated 7/24/1980, permit#07871. The carport addition received Final inspection approval on 10/14/1980. I was however, not able to locate any permits for the conversion of the carport into a garage. The alteration of a carport into a garage is not exempt from permits and does require permits and approval as per IRC R105.1 Unpermitted alteration work is defined as an "Unlawful acts" as per IPMC 106.1 and IRC R113.1,thus creating an "Unlawful Structure" as defined by IPMC 108.1.4 The garage should also be scrutinized for potential unpermitted electrical installation work,due to the now enclosed nature of the structure.
