ARTICLE 24-HOURS <br /> Twenty-Four Hour Shift Schedule(Suppression)-The normal work shift for suppression personnel shall <br /> be twenty-four(24)hours.The hours of duty shall be established according to the initiative ordinance of <br /> the City of Everett so that the average weekly hours of duty in any month shall not exceed 42 hours.In no <br /> case,shall a firefighter be required to work in excess of 24 consecutive hours without being paid at the <br /> employee's overtime rate.The four(4)platoon system shall be exercised in carrying out this work <br /> schedule.Employees called back to work for an emergency will be paid in accordance with Article 14 <br /> Forty Hour Shift Schedule(Non-suppression)-The normal work shift for non-suppression personnel <br /> shall be 5/8's(five(5)days,forty(40)hour week).In lieu of the 5/8's schedule,day shift members,with <br /> authorization from the Fire Chief,or designee,may work the following alternative work schedule:4/10's <br /> ten(10)hours per day, four(4)days per week.The determination of which schedule an employee will <br /> work will be made by the Fire Chief or designee, considering workloads,weather conditions,daylight <br /> hours,commuting,staffing availability,the needs of the department,etc.The affected employee,and the <br /> Union,will be notified fourteen(14)calendar days in advance of any schedule changes. <br /> Lunch Period—During the normal work shift,members assigned to a twenty-four(24)hour shift will <br /> receive a one(1)hour paid lunch period.Members assigned to a forty(40)hour workweek will receive a <br /> thirty(30)minute paid lunch period.Members will be available for emergency response during their paid <br /> lunch period. The City and Union recognize that due to the nature of the work,mealtimes may be <br /> interrupted or need to be taken at an alternative time. Suppression and non-suppression employees shall <br /> receive paid rest periods in accordance with City Policy,and state and Federal Law. <br /> Except as provided above,any changes in the working schedule shall be subject to negotiation between <br /> the City and the Union according to the procedures outlined in Article 31 of this Agreement and <br /> Washington State law. <br /> All other provisions of this contract and any amendments or addendums thereto shall be construed to be <br /> read consistent with a 24 hour shift unless specifically stated otherwise. <br /> 34 <br />
